Yvelines dentists work almost entirely in private practice
Only 2.4 % of general dentists in the Yvelines also hold a salaried job, against 5.5 % nationally and far higher shares in most other Île-de-France départements. That makes the local figure easier to read: the €331,730 average in fees per full-time active practitioner mostly describes full weeks in the chair, not a blend of full-time and split careers. The département ranks 40 of 101, +10 % on France and +10 % on the regional average.
Patient numbers are close to the national norm. With 55 general dentists per 100,000 residents, exactly the French ratio of 55, each one treats 843 different patients a year against 837 for France. Dépassements, the fees charged above the agreed national tariff, slightly outweigh regulated work here, at €170,968 versus €160,762. From Versailles and Saint-Germain-en-Laye out to Mantes, prosthetic treatment carries a little more weight in turnover than it does on average. Women account for 49 % of general dentists, close to an even split.
A wave of young dentists and fees still rising
Headcount grew from 717 at the end of 2020 to 834 at the end of 2025, one of the sharpest increases in the region. The age structure shows it: 33 % are under 35, above the French share, while 20 % are 60 or older, close to the national 19 %. The extra competition has not pulled the average down. It stood at €259,015 in 2015 and €286,985 in 2019, and is up +28 % over ten years, faster than the national curve. Newcomers here appear to be meeting growing demand rather than carving up a fixed amount of work.
Orthodontics in the Yvelines beats the national benchmark
The 60 private orthodontists, specialists in orthopédie dento-faciale (ODF), bill €862,571 on average: +16 % against France and +26 % against the specialty's regional mean. Most of that, €637,158, comes from fees above tariff, which is standard for orthodontic treatment. Each sees 1,112 patients, near the national level, with 4.0 orthodontists per 100,000 residents and only 12 % in mixed practice. There are also 15 private stomatologists, doctors specialised in the mouth and jaw, down from 23 five years earlier, with 80 % of them aged 60 or over; their average fees fall under statistical confidentiality and are not published. The ranking of départements puts the Yvelines mid-table within Île-de-France: above the inner western suburbs, well behind the Val-d'Oise and Seine-et-Marne.
