Dentists’ fees in Val-d'Oise
550 general dentists in private practice, 35 orthodontists: their 2025 average fees, and yours alongside.
General dentists in Val-d'Oise (Île-de-France) billed €396,190 in fees on average in 2025 per full-time active practitioner, 31 % above the national average (€302,480), which ranks the département 8 out of 101. There are 42 general dentists per 100,000 residents (France: 55), and 22 % of them are aged 60 or over. The 35 orthodontists qualified in dentofacial orthopaedics (ODF) billed €765,151 on average, against €742,190 nationally. Between 2019 and 2025, general dentists’ average fees moved by +15.8 %. These are health insurance averages, not take-home pay: practice costs, roughly half of receipts, still come off, and non-reimbursable work such as implants is not included.

Val-d'Oise leads Île-de-France for general dentistry fees
No other département in the Paris region beats the Val-d'Oise on general dentistry fees. A full-time active practitioner bills €396,190 on average, rank 8 of 101 nationally, +31 % on the French average and +32 % on the Île-de-France one. The gap with nearby Paris is wide. From the Cergy-Pontoise conurbation to Argenteuil and the villages of the Vexin, 550 general dentists practise privately, 42 per 100,000 residents, noticeably thinner coverage than the national 55.
The patient count is the revealing part. At 817 distinct patients per dentist per year, the Val-d'Oise sits just under the French benchmark of 837. The high average therefore does not come from unusually long patient lists but from more billed per patient. Dépassements, the fees charged above the agreed national tariff, reach €199,895, slightly more than the €196,295 billed at tariff, which points to a heavy weight of crowns, bridges and implants. A busy practice focused on routine care can still fall well short of the local mean.
A long-standing lead rather than a recent catch-up
This is not new. The average was already €310,891 in 2015, far above France, and €342,041 in 2019. Ten-year growth of +27 % is close to the national +26 %. Headcount went from 511 to 550 in five years without eroding that level. The workforce is renewing itself: 33 % are under 35, 22 % are 60 or over, women account for 50 %, and only 9 % combine private work with a salaried job. To move from these fees to what a dentist actually takes home, the guide to dentist income lists the costs to subtract.
More specialists, flatter averages
Orthodontics tells a different story. The number of specialists in orthopédie dento-faciale (ODF) rose from 29 to 35 in five years, the sharpest increase in the region, yet their average of €765,151 has grown only +9 % since 2015, against +38 % for orthodontists across France. It now sits close to the national figure (+3 %), with 978 patients per orthodontist. 31 % of these orthodontists are 60 or older and 11 % are under 35, a higher under-35 share than in most of Île-de-France. Stomatology, the medical specialty of the mouth and jaw, has its own pattern: 10 private practitioners, 70 % of whom also hold a salaried post, an average of €331,325 at rank 24 of 25, and yet a wide caseload of 1,306 patients. Part-time private hours are probably a large part of that mismatch.
