General dentists in Val-de-Marne (Île-de-France) billed €292,207 in fees on average in 2025 per full-time active practitioner, 3 % below the national average (€302,480), which ranks the département 75 out of 101. There are 48 general dentists per 100,000 residents (France: 55), and 25 % of them are aged 60 or over. These are health insurance averages, not take-home pay: practice costs, roughly half of receipts, still come off, and non-reimbursable work such as implants is not included.

Val-de-Marne: fewer dentists than average, yet a low average
Density alone would mislead you in the Val-de-Marne. At 48 general dentists in private practice per 100,000 residents, it is less well supplied than France as a whole (55), which would suggest busy chairs. Instead, average fees per full-time active practitioner come to €292,207, −3 % against the national level and −3 % against Île-de-France, rank 75 out of 101. Each dentist treats 741 different patients a year, clearly fewer than the 837 seen nationally.
Two features of the data help explain the gap. One is time spent in private work: 17 % of general dentists in Créteil, Vitry-sur-Seine or Saint-Maur-des-Fossés also hold a salaried job, three times the French rate of 6 %. The other is the mix of treatment. €158,462 is billed at the regulated tariff and €133,745 as dépassements, the extra fees above that tariff, so turnover leans on reimbursed care more than on freely priced prosthetics.
Headcount growing faster than fees
The number of general dentists went from 616 at the end of 2020 to 693 five years later. Over a decade the average rose only +15 %, from €254,590 in 2015, while France recorded +26 %. Most of that rise came after 2019, when the local figure still stood at €266,174. Women make up 49 % of general dentists, close to the national balance. The workforce combines 30 % under 35 with 25 % aged 60 or more. For anyone eyeing a practice purchase, the picture is of a market where surgeries multiply faster than fees per dentist, and where a fair comparison has to account for the days a practice actually opens. The guide to practice cost ratios shows how to get from these fees to what a practice actually keeps.
Stomatology shrinking, orthodontics mostly female
Stomatology shows the starkest trend in the département: 14 private stomatologists (doctors specialised in the mouth and jaw) at the end of 2025, down from 22 five years before. Those who remain average €564,949, rank 8 of 25 published départements, with 1,234 patients each. In a group this small the average swings a lot from one year to the next, so treat it with care. Orthodontics counts 46 specialists in orthopédie dento-faciale (ODF), 80 % of them women, billing €682,937 on average (−8 % on France). 30 % are 60 or over, and the same share also works in a salaried post.
